A Very Hipster Easter Special

Buon Hello Hipsters! Is there a better way to enjoy your Easter Break when you have some sweet new tracks to listen to? Answer is, yes there is. However! To ease the pain over not posting for a while, here is a blog to celebrate Easter + some great new artists we here at The Hipster Committee are loving.

Numero Uno: Ellie Goulding - Lights

Ellie is another amazing British Artist and this track is so f***ing whimsical it's not even funny. Little bit dancy, little bit hipster eat your heart out. Plus the music video is stunning.

Numero Due: Katy B - Katy On A Mission & Broken Record

Katy B, another hiptastic British artist with a bit of a dubstep twist. Her vocals have that amazing British taste and her sound is through the wall.

Numero Tre: Never Shout Never - California

Another personal favourite, and a great song to sing to. I especially enjoy the hipster falsetto and the fact that he sings "la la la la" one million times.

Also a special mention goes out to "Amy" who is "so indie"she actually does not know anything. She is the worst.

So Hipsters! Enjoy your Easter, hoping it is full of designer scarfs, not eating chocolate because that would be too mainstream and talking about these sweet new tracks I have provided you with over a campfire. Like them before everyone else does!

Hipster of the Week - Rebecca Black

First of all: Holla Hipsters! Remember this blog? Yes we're still around if you've been following the regular posts on our facebook! http://www.facebook.com/thehipstercommittee (now with official linkage) however let's just get straight into it by introducing our newest hipster of the week.

She's 13, enjoys Friday's and sounds like a cat being harassed by a cheese grater. But in all honesty, we love her. Yes she became mainstream big time which is a huge faux pas. But there were those hipsters who loved to hate her deep lyrics before the billions of views. But now we just love to watch her being parodied!

And what better way than to be featured in a Black Swan Parody. DOUBLE HIPSTER = AMAZING.

So enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GILEWbpjfdY&feature=player_embedded

Hipster How To - Be Hipster

This post requires very little introduction.. Just read and absorb the Hipster Wisdom.

Click to enlarge.. and take notes of course.

We hope this makes you instantly more Hipster.  If you don't feel more Hipster straight away, you may want to invest in a fixed wheel bicycle... or a unicorn.

Hipster of the Week: Olivia Bee

In the world of young and talented photographers, there is no one quite as Hipster as Olivia Bee.

Olivia is 16 and she keeps a diary of sorts.  I suppose this is her way of documenting the underground and confusing world of teenage life.

Olivia Bee shares her world with some equally Hipster friends, who add a honest and poetic dimension to her well defined niche of photography.

Here is Olivia discussing her world.. in her very own Converse ad.  We told you she was Hipster.

You can find Olivia Bee here making many more new wave Hipster images.

Hipster Lesson #03 - Know Your Bands

Hola Hipsters! (Ha, how ironic was that intro?) This hipster lesson is bought to you by Arcade Fire, who feature in this deck as youtube clip we are about to present you. In the clip, the message is simple "Know who Arcade Fire is, or Hipsters will kill you." Easy Right?

But here's the thing. Hipsters are always trying to outdo each other so how does one know what band is indie chic, and what band is a sellout. Solution: Make a band up! You haven't heard of Smashy Die Hardcore? What kind of hipster are you? What do you mean you aren't going to see My Ironic Soul live in concert?! Oh you actually want to come see them with me... YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T LIKE THEIR STUFF...

Boom problems solved! So enjoy hipsters, and make those trends up!

Hipster How To - How To Be A Hipster Princess

Dear Hipsters. As you may have noticed, unless you have been hiding under some sort of mainstream like rocky surface, we here at The Hipster Committee have decided that Hipster Princesses is a trend we like. Why do we like this? Well first we have a bunch of pretty, popular Disney icons that are all of a sudden finding their inner Hipster Roots. We endorse this 100% and enjoy that fact that Arial would rather be called Helvetica and that Jasmine is all for the parachute pants. So that's why today's blog is all about finding your inner hipster and letting lose of your pre-determinations!

So you like Britney Spears? Great! But why not like Britney Spears... IRONICALLY?! Can you? Who knows but you're a hipster now so why not dig out some 90's pop music and blast it from your walkmans. Tell people you liked pop music... BEFORE THEY DID and enjoy eating at popular restaurants... ONLY TO MAKE FUN OF EVERYBODY ELSE.

This right here, is your guide on how to like mainstream stuff, but remain the ultimate hipster by one-upping (see last Hipster How To) all your friends. These princesses have taught us that they too like underground trends and so can you! So go forth fellow hipsters and rule!

The Hipster Committee

Hipster of the Week: Noël Kristi Wells

Hey Hipsters! A week has gone past since last week making it the same time from last week where a hipster of the week was chosen! That probably makes no sense whatsoever but then again, what hipster does?

This Hipster may seem a little familiar as she is responsible for one of the best Zoeey Deschanel (our hipster goddess) impersonations... EVER! Her name is Noël Kristi Wells and through a little more research on this woman, we've discovered that she is most definitely a certified hipster! The artsy photography, web skillz (yes with a z) and her image! Which is a great one. Also the fact that her name has two little dots above the "e", is hipster as all hell!

So check her out, I'll add this sweet link I found all about her, http://notcommonpeople.blogspot.com/2010/11/noel-kristi-wells.html

Plus I get the chance to post the latest Hey! The Zooey Deschanel Show ep which is f***ing hilarious!

Hipster Lesson #02 - Thift Stores are a Hipster's Best Friend...

Thift Stores are a Hipster's Best Friend...

A Hipster should always look perfectly unmade.. bed hair, worn Chuck Taylors and most importantly, the most original thrift store ensemble this side of Williamsburg.

Don't believe me.. Check this out, featuring Thrift Queen Sammy Davis and two of the Hipster Committee's favourite friends.. the girls from Stuff Hipsters Hate in Thrift Wars.

So Hipsters it is time to get thrifting.. watch out for anything plaid, vintage, retro, or retro designer and buy every fedora you see. Tell them The Hipster Committee sent you.

The Hipster Committee

Hipster How To: One Up's

Aloha Hipsters, that's hipster for hello. Today I'm writing from my iPhone and although I am deeply disturbed that the font is not helvetica, I am pushing myself to deliver you an awesomly hipster post regardless of my lack of proper Internet.

First of all what kind of hipster would I be if I didn't have an iPhone? I don't see myself as a conformist at all. And why is that? Because I totally had an iPhone before my friends did! And this brings me to the topic of this weeks Hipster How To: How to one up your mates when they have cooler stuff before you.

We here at The Hipster Committee are all about being on top of the latest trends. And what happens if we aren't? Well let's just say we have them taken care of... No, I joke, I joke. We one up them! Take Mario for example, when Bowser has his woman, he one up's and destroys a bitch! But in reality what we like to do is say "yeah I've totally heard of that non-descript band ages ago bro." Or, if they have a 1970's retro Polaroid camera, you buy a 1960's retro Polaroid camera and brag the crap out of life!

Now this is a guaranteed way of beating all of your friends to becoming a better hipster than them. So as long as you continue to out hipster everyone, you will be satisfied in knowing that you, yes you, are hipster as all fuck. Enjoy your week hipsters!

Yours,
The Hipster Committee

Hipster of the Week - Jessie J

Sup, Hipsters?! Alrighty let's get straight to the point shall we? It's that time of the week for, well... Hipster Of The Week! Now, this woman is a British R&B/Punk/Indie/Lo-Fi/Retro/Groovin'/Slammin' (I may have exaggerated some of these genre's but what kind of Hipster would I be if I wasn't also dramatic about everything?) singer who kind of rocks my world at the moment.

And so The Hipster Committee is proud to present to you, Jessie J.

Why does Jessie J rock my socks off? Well her slick attitude and take on culture in her first single "Do It Like A Dude" just speaks to the inner psyche of my Hipster mind. Her swagger, her style, her boss like voice. Plus... HER HAIR. Incredible. I just want to crawl up into a little ball and pray to the Hipster gods.

So fellow Hipsters, check her out! Her music video is fueled with Alt/Indie fierceness.

Hipster Lesson #01 - Know Your Scene

 Know Your Scene...

Every Hipster must know where they don't fit in society, in order to prevent that embarrassing moment when they accidentally fit in. Lessons on how not to fit in to come, but for now Hipsters must check out Your Scene Sucks, to establish physically, mentally and hipstally which scenes are best to eliminate from your psyche.

Remember always reject conventional social habits.

Hipster How To

Welcome, fellow Hipsters to The Hipster Committee's first blog post! As you may have noticed I am, of course, writing in Helvetica. But more to the point, you may have noticed from the Facebook page, that we are a fresh "underground/never-heard-of/new committee comprising of set values all hipsters must worship and/or hold" (it says so in our description boxes) and our aim is to enlighten each and every fellow hipster into the complex culture of The Hipster.

Now you might be wondering what a hipster actually is. So here's a simple breakdown.

"\hip-stur\ n. One who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed cool by the cool. The Hipster walks among the masses in daily life but is not a part of them and shuns or reduces to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream.

Typically a Hipster can be identified by vintage or thrift-store bought clothing, a taste for obscure or underground music, a penchant for irony and an elitist attitude."

Source: Being a Hipster & Google.

Okay, this is the part where I get to the core of the blog post and inform all of you hipsters, well... Just how to be a hipster. So instead of typing the 1001 ways of wearing a checkered shirt, watching your favourite band live while at the same time reading their autobiography and giving you several tips on how to reject mainstream society, I'm going to let this Youtube video inform you of all of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eKnSGn914M

So once again, welcome! And thanks fellow Hipsters for tuning into the Facebook page and enjoying the numerous posts on this deck as phenomenon, The Hipster.

Yours,
The Hipster Committee
